This is a transcript of a Mass Effect RP plot discussion Danny and I had yesterday:
Quote
For the Mass Effect RP, I was thinking it take place at the end of ME1. All our characters will end up at a research outpost on an Alliance colony world somehow. Turians and Humans would already be there, as the research is a joint project between the races. Every other race would turn up as things go wrong.

The Geth show up, overpower Alliance and Turian soldiers and take the outpost. The thread starts with a small group of turian and human soldiers and scientists in a back room with the geth about to be turned into husks. All other characters, like krogan, asari and quarian, show up then too but outside the facility, responding to our distress call for whatever reason. General interest to help, loot etc.

Just before one of us is spiked the other guys bust in and an intense fight breaks out.

Directly after we make it out of there, Sovereign attacks the citadel with the geth. We rock up late for the party to discover the victory. After that I've got nothing.

I was thinking because we witnessed the husks and how they're created, we believe in the Reapers despite Council propaganda claiming otherwise. Or some of us can not believe in the Reapers, causing some confrontation. In the one month between ME1 and ME2, we can go geth hunting and end up on a colony about to be taken by the collectors? I don't know.

How about some Cerberus guys come in and save us and some of the colonists? Maybe we could get some more clues from them, but we don't trust them enough to stick with them for long. Then the info we get leads us somewhere else.

Cerberus, of course!

So we end up on that colony, fight off the Collectors to be rescued by Cerberus. Then maybe some of us break off to work for Cerberus, because they're the only people really doing anything about the Reapers and Collectors?

It's very basic so far, so I was hoping for some more ideas to flesh it out. Thoughts?

My one concern is what will the people not working for Cerberus be doing?

Potential Solution:  Working secretly for the Council to look into the Reaper Threat, yes I know publically they are like"dun worry guys, no proof of  Reapers are not real", but I don't think the Council (at least I hope) isn't dumb enough to at least look into this potential threat, especially if Anderson is on the Council.

Potential Solution II: Work to take out Cerberus

Maybe something we could do is take out some Rachni?  (in which we assume Shepard released the Queen).  I don't think people would be too happy with them crawling around.

Gimme some time, and I can think of something, this is all I got.

They are actually that stupid. If they weren't, they would have sent a Spectre. Oh wait, they did! And look how great that turned out. Tongue

That is why I said I hope Tongue.   I wouldn't put it past them, and since said Spectre failed why not send in the average guys!

I don't think we'd break out into a Cerberus campaign. The main story will be not joining Cerberus, but if people decide to, we can have a thread for that too.

Anyway, I don't like the idea of being some secret force for the Council. I'd rather be simple soldiers here.

Ok, so how about this:

  • First thread
  • Human and Turian military characters are on the surface of a level 1 hazard planet in the Traverse. All other military characters are here too, like Salarian STG
  • A joint research project is taking place in a small outpost that goes underground.
  • What they're doing doesn't have to be very significant.
  • Geth attack the outpost. Let out a distress signal.
  • No Human or Turian ships in the area; too distracted by Sovereign's attack on the Citadel.
  • A random ship full of our non-military characters like mercenaries etc respond to the distress call.
  • Mercenary characters save military characters from turning into Husks. Epic brawl with Geth.
  • All characters are brought aboard the mercenary ship.
  • The ship picks up word that the Citadel is under attack by Geth.
  • Military characters want to be taken there, mercenary ones don't want to get close. Argument ensues.
  • End up going but arrive too late to do anything, but in time to see Sovereigns destructive power.
  • Characters go aboard Citadel to clear out the remaining Geth from the presidium. Military to do their job, mercs to get some loot.
  • Exposed to more husks and Reaper tech.
  • Short op. ends. Get slammed for believing in the Reapers; told to keep quiet and focus on Geth.
  • Military characters are assigned to Human colony world.
  • Mercs part ways.

  • Second thread
  • Military characters have been on the human colony for almost a month
  • Bored as crap
  • Suddenly, Collectors!
  • The colony goes dark, but a passing ship notices the strange activity. Just so happens to be our mercenary characters.
  • Military characters manage to get inside a building; safe from the swarms. But one of our characters gets nipped and becomes paralysed.
  • Mercenary characters show up after the swarms have passed and land to find it seemingly abandoned.
  • Collectors themselves breach inside the military characters stronghold and a fire-fight breaks out.
  • Mercenary characters come across the stasis pods and the Collector ship
  • All hope is almost lost for our military characters.
  • That is until our mercs bust in and save their ass again.
  • Huzzah! But more Collectos show up and they mad.
  • Luckily a Cerberus cruiser drops from orbit and scares off the Collector ship away.
  • Characters are brought on board the Cerberus ship. Character who is paralysed is claimed by Cerberus for research and the human characters are offered a position in their organisation.
  • Cerberus vomits anti-Alliance and anti-alien propaganda right in front of Alliance soldiers and the assortment of aliens.
  • Human characters have the opportunity to Join Cerberus.
  • Aliens are told to leave. Rudely.
  • Fight breaks out. Probably Krogan's fault
  • Cerberus turns on aliens and humans who refuse to join.
  • Fight their way through the Cerberus cruiser back to their docked ship.
  • Escape and flee to Omega

  • Third thread
  • The remaining military and merc characters are aboard Omega contemplating their future service.
  • Give it all up for the free life or run back to their respective military's?
  • Those that join Cerberus find themselves on the station too. But they're not looking for the others. They're tasked with acquiring 'sensitive material'.
  • Word of Commander Shepard's death reaches Omega
  • Military characters decide they need to contact the Alliance to inform them the Collectors attacked their colony
  • The 'sensitive material' the human alliance/mercs turned Cerberus operatives are tasked to find is Shepard's body
  • The Illusive man wants the body and has tasked several sources in bringing it in.
  • Merc and military characters catch wind of Shadow Broker agents on Omega holding Shepard's body
  • Mercs realise the demand and believe they can make a whooooole lotta money if they get it themselves.
  • Military characters realise they can't let Cerberus, mercs or Shadow Broker Agents have the body. They decide to use the mercs to get close to the body and then take it for themselves and return it to the alliance
  • Turns out Liar T'Soni, a powerful biotic, also wants his body. As well as the Collectors
  • Military and merc characters discover the location of Shepard's body in a warehouse, thanks to the capture of a suspected Shadow Broker agent
  • Cerberus operatives recognise their old acquaintances and follow them to the warehouse
  • Confrontation between the group stalls long enough for a Collector force to enter Omega.
  • Blue Suns, Eclipse and the Blood Pack all know about Shepard's body
  • EVERY faction converges on the warehouse
  • In the battle, the now Cerberus characters and military/merc characters reach the body locked in a container
  • They manage to only get a glimpse of the mangled corpse before they are attacked and forced to work together to survive
  • The body is taken and the attackers leave
  • Most of the factions involved go after it, but the Cerberus operatives are told to hold as a 'Plan B is active'
  • Cerberus and military/merc characters decide to part ways peacefully
  • In the end, the body is taken to a Shadow Broker base by a Salarian named Tazzik (look him up; he's badass). Liarra attacks the base and is convinced by Miranda to hand over the body to Cerberus

Aaaand that's all I got. Add, remove, modify; go!

...I want. I so very much want.

Since this is the end of ME1, I'm assuming we're using ME1 weapons - in which case, what's the highest level we'd legitimately be able to start off with? (i.e. Avenger III, Avenger VII, etc.)

Sounds great. Smiley
If we're going to mention Shepherd, are we going to go with "he", "she", or try to avoid using pronouns and gender based words. Tongue

Well  I think we should try and avoid using pronouns to describe Shepard, to keep with the realism.      Or we can go with it Tongue.      Though it would be funny if people disputed Shepard's Gender.

"I can't believe Shephard died, he was one of the best soldiers in the Alliance Military, and the first human Spectre"

"What do you mean He? I heard  Shepard was a girl"

-argument ensues-

Also Shepard was in the a space suit when the accident happened, with a mask on so it wouldn't be impossible to conceal Shepard's gender.   Or maybe the body is in such bad shape you can't discern it anymore XD.

Also I think with this we can start the first thread, IF we come up with ideas for the Fourth thread or more by the time First Thread is finished.

It was said in the comic Mass Effect: Redemption, Shepard's body was so messed up they couldn't tell if it was a he or she.

So we could be like:
Human: "That's... Shepard?"
Krogan: "Damn, there's nothing left. What would Cerberus want with a charred heap? I can't even tell if it was a man or woman."

Oh, idea for thread 4! Wait for it...

  • Thread four
  • Cerberus has tracked a powerful human biotic who fled from the Cerberus funded Ascension Project back to the Migrant Fleet
  • Cerberus operatives who previously infiltrated the project sneak aboard with the other humans, while a black ops team prepares to attack
  • A Quarian character from the fleet contacts another Quarian character on board the mercenary/military ship
  • She/he tells her friend on the merc/milli vessel that humans have been allowed to board under suspicious circumstances
  • She/he says they can use this event as an argument to the admiralty board to allow ships from the fleet to break off and look for resources/new home, as he/she believes the fleet is slowly dying
  • The Quarian(s) on the merc/milli vessel are given the coordinates of the fleet and the quarian on board convinces everyone they have to go
  • Boom, Cerberus. Human 'civilians' turn on the quarian marines and allow Cerberus black ops to enter the main vessel
  • By then, milli/merc characters are on board and agree to help
  • Fight, fight, fight with Cerberus characters
  • Cerberus looses and retreats and the biotic child is allowed to stay on board a quarian vessel
  • Cerberus characters, before their retreat, are cornered and offered a position back on board the merc/milli vessel. Some agree, some refuse. Those that refuse are allowed to leave alive due to their history, and those that want to stay are brought aboard the vessel as squadmates.
  • Or are they...

  • Thread five
  • Merc/milli vessel has just picked up supplies from Omega and passed through a relay to some system
  • BOOM CERBERUS AMBUSH
  • Some of the Cerberus characters that were brought aboard give away the ships position allowing it to be ambushed
  • Cerberus cruiser damages the ship and forces it to crash land on a planet (could either be just some random planet or it could Pavelin or some other major planet)
  • Who exactly of the ex-Cerberus characters betrayed them are unknown
  • Milli/merc characters hide out on Pavelin (or whatever planet) while Cerberus forces land to find them and kill them due to their toubles
  • Survive on Pavelin for a while

That's all I got.

Alright here we go!

  • Thread five
  • Merc/milli vessel has just picked up supplies from Omega and passed through a relay to some system
  • BOOM CERBERUS AMBUSH
  • Some of the Cerberus characters that were brought aboard give away the ships position allowing it to be ambushed
  • Cerberus cruiser damages the ship and forces it to make an emergency landing (critical part of the ship is damaged, and it can't fly anymore until it gets repaired) (could either be just some random planet or it could Pavelin or some other major planet)
  • Who exactly of the ex-Cerberus characters betrayed them are unknown
  • Milli/merc characters hide out on Pavelin (or whatever planet) while Cerberus forces land to find them and kill them due to their toubles
  • Survive on Pavelin for a while
  • Military people make a distress call
  • Fight our way to a ship graveyard where we search for parts to fix our damaged ship
  • Ambushed in the graveyard
  • Alliance/Turian/etc  vessel comes to the rescue
  • With this distraction we manage to make our way to our downed vessel
  • Fix vessel and GTFO

You liek?
