Title: Minecraft Server
Post by: Danny on October 12, 2013, 08:56:56 PM
We're at it again!

Here are the simple steps to getting online with us:

1. Get Minecraft

2. Download the 'unmanaged' Hamachi from here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/download.aspx (Hamachi simulates a LAN network, pretty much)

3. Once the program is running, select 'Network' and choose 'Join An Existing Network'

4. The 'Network ID' is exactly this: ProjectRP2
The Password is exactly this: 12345
You are now in our network

5. Open Minecraft, go into the Multiplayer tab and select 'Add Server'

6. Name the server whatever you would like, but put this in as the IP: 25.207.59.8

7. Add Server

8. Join

9. Don't drown

Congratulations, you're online and playing with us!

Also if anybody finds a skeleton spawner lemme know, I really want one to work my base around one.

I also recommend we work together and build an ender ender XP farm (ok I'll build it but I'll need a lot of string, iron and redstone), and the ender dragon killed (group event?)

Yesterday (October 12th, 2013), Mitch and I discovered a strange, new, already-inhabited land. We proceeded to locate the largest house in their village, claim it as our own, dismantle it, and rebuild it elsewhere for use as our home. No payment or reparations was made to the locals.

Today I realized that yesterday was Columbus Day.

There's a five user limit on the free Hamachi version, so I'll have to kick someone who isn't playing if another person wants to join. If you get kicked, just repeat steps 3 and 4 to rejoin when there's an opening.
Hopefully we'll have no more than five people wanting to play at a time, but if we do, I guess it'll have to be first come first serve.

Server switched to Peps' computer. New IP: 25.235.79.182

Nevermind, server seems confused at being moved. No time to fix.

Sev proposes:
Build Your Backstory!

Construct something that gives backstory to your character. Something that implies a previous existence, or an origin. This could be a variety of things. If your character was a mummy, for instance, you might construct a pyramid in the desert. If your character was a pirate, you might construct a pirate ship. Did your character wash up on the shore with no recollection of how they arrived? Perhaps you could build a shipwreck or a plane crash.

No deadline or anything, just curious as to whether or not we have any sort of story.

Indi grab the world file from the current server and maybe just make a new Hamatchi and server (replacing the generated world with our old world), maybe rename it to something and I think in the notepad file somewhere

***

I'll do Sev's thing later, I just need to find a skin I like XP.

***

I just need to double check the technical support from the server hosting place, if I have to have anything on my laptop, and how long I am going to buy it for (several payment options based on length), and I don't want to be paying for something that isn't getting used because I'm not the richest man in town.
So yeah we might get a 24/7 server soon enough and it should run better, I'll just need to get the world file from Indi and the save game of each player so we won't lose any progress. (That or just the world file and everyone would have to put their inventory and armor into chests)

I think I know what I did wrong, but I didn't have time to fix it before work, and I was out of energy after work.

I'll be here to keep it running most of the time for the rest of the week, so I'll leave it on my computer for now.

New IP for now: 25.207.64.216

Entry 1:

It appears that bloody "hero" has managed to somehow banish me to some unknown land.  Why my corporal form chose to manifest itself here instead of my homeland is unknown to me at this time.
I am still weak so I am unable to use my magic yet this place seems devoid of arcane energy, further study will be needed and more time to regain my power.

I don't know if it is because I am weakened or not but the dead here will not obey me, no matter what manner of necromancy I try and perform on them.   I will take note at the apparent resistance of these undead creatures immunity to my necromancy, for I will merely slay them with my sword.

Not far from the shore I washed up on there was a quaint little inn built into a hill.  It was nice and cosy and for assisting them with a zombie problem I managed to secure myself some bread and a bed to rest my head on.   I mined for a time to gather material and wealth.
***
When I asked where I could find a swamp (so I could perhaps find some manner of foul creatures to do my bidding) a local woman with red hair said she could guide me the next day as there was a swamp near her village.   A village? Good I would have souls to corrupt and steal for the Chaos Gods, but for now I play the role of a traveler, an adventurer if you will.  These people do not seem to understand what I really am or my intent, so for now I will bide my time and gather my strength.

The woman guided me through the mountains, across a section of the ocean, and a desert.  It seemed the terrain was varied and tough here.  In the distance from the inn I could see a jungle and heard tales of savages and strange beasts, I will have to investigate at another time.

I thanked the woman for showing me the way and paid her in emeralds for her troubles before I went on my way to explore the swampland near her village.  Unfortunately it was just an ordinary swamp, little use from me, for now.   Not wishing to stay there much further, no need to have the villagers pay much attention to me, I departed for the inn again.

The next day I scouted out the area around the inn, it was mountainous and had fertile valleys.   Not far from the inn I saw a piece of real estate that would serve nicely for the location of my tower.
It would require me to remove part of the mountain itself but I was up to the effort, after setting up a temporary base of operations in a nearby cave I began digging away the mountain itself.  I recall an incident of digging the earth between a sheep sending it to fall to its doom to its death.

(Ooc Left some things out but pretty much my backstory is that my character is a powerful evil Mage who ended up getting banished to here, and he is more or less trying to spread madness and chaos, but for now he is blending in to be low key).

We're all going to Ohio this weekend, and I'll be taking my laptop with me, and unfortunately there's no internet up there. If someone wants, I can send them the world file for someone else to host.

Do we want to start a new world on the 1.8 snapshot, or do we want to wait for the finished update?

I vote that we wait for the update, that way we don't have to worry about any potential problems that may arise during the transition from the incomplete version to the finalized version.

I vote snapshot

I'm worried about the snapshot causing problems in transition as well.

By the way, what plans did we have for Tekkit?

Title: Re: Minecraft Server
Post by: Specs on May 28, 2014, 06:21:25 PM
While I like tekkit I'm not sure if we can run it because sometimes the server has problems running Vanilla minecraft and tekkit is much more resource intensive. So my concern would be it would be so laggy that it would be practically unplayable.

I don't think there should be any transition problems because new world of the snapshot wood be generating the new stone of 1.8 because it is 1.8 just with a few minor bugs, if there is anything major Mojang quickly releases another patch to fix it, though I don't expect us to keep updating the snapshot every week when they come out, unless they for some reason change world gen which is why going from 1.6 to 1.7 messed up I think, though that could have been easily salvageable there are three strongholds in the world.  I didn't really see the stronghold but sometimes ravines or mineshafts break them, but that's fine you have two other strongholds in the world.

By the way, what plans did we have for Tekkit?
My friend hosts a Tekkit server that consists of multiple worlds connected via interdimensional nexus. There are a couple of minigame worlds, a survival world, and a central world which serves sort of as a testing ground/base of operations for the server host. Hamachi isn't required: connecting is as simple as entering the IP address.

I've been fiddling around with Minecraft mods, and I was wondering: Whenever they make mods possible for Realms, what mods would people be interested in?

Title: Re: Minecraft Server
Post by: Specs on March 07, 2015, 07:48:51 PM
Thaumcraft
Forestry (and extra bees or if bees aren't part of forestry then the Bee Mod)
Milenaire is fun but I'm not sure how well it would do with other mods
Ars Magica 2
Extra Biomes (might be Xtra)

I know Sev would like Flans mod with the guns.

I'm not sure when/if realms will add mod support, but we could potentially look into renting a server for modded support when our realms is close to expiring.    We wouldn't have to lose spawn town, I should be able to copy it with MC Edit an move it into new server, and clean it up because will be messy probably.

Title: Re: Minecraft Server
Post by: Indi on March 07, 2015, 09:28:30 PM
I read somewhere they were working on a user-friendly way to pick and add popular mods to realms. That was a while back though.

Also, the newest version of Milenaire seems alot more stable. I've got about 30 mods, and I've been adding and removing them, and it's working fine. It used to freak out if I changed anything though, so I understand the concern.

Milenaire is my favorite mod, I'm also very fond of Growthcraft (it also has bees, and you can make mead). Twilight Forest would be fun with a group, lots of big scary things to fight. The backpacks mod is really useful, and Gravestone is nice to have so you don't have to worry about your stuff despawning when you die. Extra Utilities and Openblocks has alot of useful random stuff. I'd also like a mod that adds more furniture like Bibliocraft and/or Mr.Crayfish's Furniture, but that's not essential.

I know Lachlan wants Galacticraft.

Lachlan is interested in possibly renting a moddable server. He'll talk to you about it later.

Thought of a few more mods I would want:

- Tinkers Construct   The forge is cool
- Blood Magic
- Witchery
- Tanks  I don't know what mod it is from, but the tanks are cool.   Tank of blood for the blood god pls :P
- Mod that lets you make mob spawners
- Harvest Craft  Adds lots of crops as well
- Rogue Like Dungeons Generates random rogue like dungeons (big dungeons with each floor growing in difficulty I forgot how big they can get but yeah)

However that being said, an already put together modpack might be for the best because we know that the mod combos in them will work together without conflict.    I'll start looking through Technic, and ATP launcher for packs. Maybe even Feed the Beast if it is still around.

A few recommendations off the top of my head:
- Might be fun to play Pixelmon for a little while
- Reasonant Rise 3 (what the Yogcast are using, and it has most of what I want ;P, and while I don't see it in the list, gravestone should be fine to add, (http://www.resonant-rise.com/topic/4218-resonant-rise-3-mode-and-era-explanations/)
- Etho's Modpack
- Fly Boys, I feel like Sev would really like this, from what I remember from the episode of the series it had, it has planes and guns, I don't think it has super much else although it has the beautiful carpenters blocks and chisel.

I do really like Harvestcraft and Witchery as well. I left them out for the time being to see what others wanted. I'd like to keep it to 30 mods or less because I know my computer can handle that, so I was starting with the essentials. I know I can't run big mod packs like the Yogscast one at a playable level.
I know how to put together my own modpack, and I can test it myself with singleplayer before we put it on the server. I think we'll be fine picking our own custom mod setup.

Also do you know if you can still create tools the old fashioned way with Tinkers Construct, or will we be dependant on the forge for everything? It looks really cool, but I don't know enough about it.

Edit: I'm going to try to set up a modded Hamachi world. So far things look good, except for Ars Magica 2. It looks like it requires an animation mod that doesn't play well with others.

Title: Re: Minecraft Server
Post by: Specs on March 08, 2015, 05:25:35 PM
- you can get rid of ars magica 2 as it doesn't seem to be worked on anymore anyway

- I believe you can still make tools the old fashioned way and even upgrade them with the forge.  However I have not used tinkers but have seen it a lot in videos.   edit Can still craft vanilla tools, though there is an option to turn that off :P

Looking through reasonate 3 (thttp://www.resonant-rise.com/topic/4218-resonant-rise-3-mode-and-era-explanations/) then there is a few more potential mods:

- Computercraft (iirc this is where the very useful mining turtles and combat combat turtles come from)
- Simple Jetpacks
- Soul Shards:Reborn
- Bibliocraft: Forestry (if we have forestry)
- Chisel
- Chisel facades
- Thermal Expansion 3
- Magic crops?
- Magic Bees?
- Botanica? (More crop and magic fun, but we might be getting redundant here with all the magic and farming mods :P)
- Biomes O Plenty, adds some really cool new biomes for flavor, might have said this before though XD)

I'll try and look for more combat oriented mods for Sev, and on that note Flans Mod would be good.   Could we have a list of the mods you are able to successfully add to the pack?

I'm still putting it together. It's going to be very simple compared to the payed server though, because all the files will be there on the computer to tinker with directly. However, everyone will have to install the mods themselves to join the server. I'll try to simplify it as much as possible for everyone.

This will probably need to be small, probably cut it down to 10 or 15 mods and expand it if we can.

Edit: got 30 mods loaded, runs well. Could up the ram with Lachlans computer. Had to sacrifice Galacticraft, kept crashing. Will test with 30 mods locally when I can. Only problem is conflicting key bindings, which can easily be fixed in settings.

Left out Flans mod for now, it's customizable, need opinions on what to use.

Edit again: mods loaded: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oqe443dzync42mz/Screenshot%202015-03-08%2014.46.25.png?dl=0

I know Sev would like Flans mod with the guns.
Yes. Or whatever Tekkit used, with the halberds and muskets and crossbows and whatnot.

Might also be cool to have one of those airship mods or whatever, with the block that you place to make a structure into a vehicle? I wonder if I could use that to make my tanks go.

Also, Microblocks. Microblocks are great.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In regards to the current 1.8 server, I'm planning on implementing custom NPCs for the item and pet shops. Once I figure out a good design for teleporters, we'll probably get a handful of those, as well, just to help us traverse to and from distant territories. Thoughts? Additional suggestions?

Title: Re: Minecraft Server
Post by: Indi on March 14, 2015, 03:06:57 AM
The one with the muskets (can't remember what it's called) has had some compatibility issues before, but maybe there's an update. I hope so, because I liked it too.

I'll have to search around for the one to make vehicles. Haven't heard anything about it in a while, hope it's still around.

Edit: Found them. Weapon mod is "Balkon's WeaponMod" and the vehicle mod is "Archimedes' Ships". I'll test them out.

Also, there seems to be multiple mods called "Microblocks" can you link me to the one you're thinking of?

Edit again: Got Balkon's WeaponMod and Archimedes' Ships working.
